Teacher Appreciation Week: Louisiana Style (FREE Printable) 🌟🦞✏️

Louisiana Teachers Are Absolute Treasures: Shaping young minds, tying shoelaces, & dodging boogers!

By Missy Robertson, Publisher Macaroni KID Monroe-West Monroe April 6, 2025

Let’s be real for a minute—our Louisiana teachers are absolute treasures. They're out there shaping young minds, tying shoelaces, dodging boogers, and managing classroom chaos with the grace of a professional ballroom dancer. And yes, we’ve all seen it: the legendary "My Favorite Things" list sent home before Teacher Appreciation Week. It’s cute. It’s helpful. It’s... kind of like peeking into their souls a little...OMG, she likes black licorice!

But y’all—they deserve SO much more. We're talkin’ at least a 50-pound sack of crawfish and a standing ovation every morning at carpool.

So What Can You Do?

Of course, gifting your teacher a few of their favorite goodies is always a great idea (bring on the coffee cards, Flair pens, and salty snacks! By the way, we love CC's Coffee House for gift cards! They have a drive through that makes it really convenient. We would recommend avoiding the morning rush, everyone is getting their CC's coffee fix in the morning! But what if we kicked it up a notch with a little Louisiana-style lagniappe—a little something extra that doesn’t come from a store?

We’ve created a sweet, simple, and soul-filling printable that your child can fill out for their teacher. Think of it as a heartfelt hug on paper. It’s more than “You’re the best!” (though we love that, too). This download encourages kids to reflect on why their teacher is special, what they’ve learned from them, and what makes them smile when they walk into that classroom.

Why Teachers Love Handwritten Notes from Students

Teachers don’t just want stuff. They want to know they’re making a difference (spoiler alert: they are). A thoughtful note from a student can be the thing that keeps them going after a long day or when the copy machine breaks for the fourth time in a row.

"I wouldn’t trade those letters for all the coffee mugs in the world," one teacher told us.

More Creative Teacher Appreciation Week Gift Ideas

Want to go beyond the traditional teacher gifts? Here are four more creative ways to make a lasting impression:

1. Send a note of appreciation as a parent – Teachers often hear from parents when there’s a problem, but a simple thank-you email or letter can make a huge impact. If you email, be sure to copy the principal so your child's teacher gets the recognition they deserve!

2. Nominate your child's teacher for an award – Some school districts, local media, or businesses offer programs to recognize outstanding educators. Taking a few minutes to submit a nomination can make a teacher’s year!

3. Donate classroom supplies – Teachers often spend their own money on essential supplies. Consider gifting dry-erase markers, glue sticks, tissues, or other must-have classroom items. Bonus tip: Ask your child's teacher for their Amazon wishlist.

Celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week with a Heartfelt Gift

This Teacher Appreciation Week, let’s go beyond the usual gifts and make sure our educators know just how much they are valued. Whether it’s through a simple thank-you note, a classroom supply donation, or a nomination for an award, every gesture makes a difference!
